When this project first began, this page served as a beacon—a desperate "Call to Arms" sent out to the global wargaming community. We asked for hobbyists, for "snippers," for history lovers to help us achieve the impossible: a 1-to-1 scale recreation of the Battle of Hastings.
The ranks were filled in record time. What started as a bold vision held by Mirko and Peter blossomed into a collective effort of roughly 40 dedicated contributors from across the globe. We have reached our quorum, the army is mustered, and the project has taken on a life of its own.
Today, this page has evolved. It is no longer a call for recruits, but a Roll of Honor.
To those stumbling upon this project for the first time: welcome. As you explore, you are not just looking at a game—you are looking at the combined work of a fellowship.
Below, you will find (eventualluy as soon as we have sorted everything) the names of every individual who picked up their scissors, painted their bases, and poured their passion into this 16,000-figure masterpiece. We have included special mentions for those whose "extra effort" went above and beyond, providing the logistical backbone and artistic dedication required to bring this battle to life.
Come back for More! Enjoy the Rest.
IN THE BEGINNING, HASTINGS960
WAS JUST A VISION—A DARING PLAN
TO RECREATE HISTORY AT A 1-TO-1 SCALE.
But a dream of 16,000 men cannot be realised by one person alone. It requires a Moot of People, Faces, Names, Friends.
When we issued the call, the response was overwhelming.
In less than 48 hours 42 dedicated volunteers from across the globe (literally) stepped forward, transforming this project from a private dream into a collective unique masterpiece.
This page is dedicated to you—the "snippers" and the builders.
Here, we celebrate the hands that held the scissors and the hearts that shared the passion for a finall comon vision.
Below, you will find our growing registry of names, countries, and stories.
We are collecting photos and personal thoughts from every participant to create a massive community collage and a memory album of this incredible journey.
Mirko Bruner - October 2025
YOU DIDN'T JUST JOIN A PROJECT;
YOU MADE HISTORY.
WHEN MIRKO CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA, I CAN’T SAY I WAS WILDLY ENTHUSIASTIC.
It sounded to me like one of those schemes you come up with in the pub and spend the next year regretting. so i thought, before we subject the paperistas to this i’d better make a couple of stands. the experience was much easier than i had imagined.
Four sheets of Norman knights and a few new individuals rolled off the production line in three evenings in front of the TV, and the infantry base was about the same. I loved the result, and so will you.
We will provide downloads and full instructions for the layout of your assigned stand or stands and for the presentation of the figures. All you need then is some 120G Paper for the Paperboys, and a good pair of detail scissors. We assume you will have the Glue and Mod-Podge already.
Here is your chance to give something back to the PaperBoys adventure and to share in what we hope will be a spectacular landmark moment in the history of paper soldiering. Andiamo!
