A Shared Passion: James is not only a legendary wargamer but a massive fan of PaperBoys. When we shared our vision of 16,000 figures on a single table, he jumped into the project with incredible enthusiasm.
Heroic Focus: The Battle of Hastings was defined by its leaders. Midgard’s mechanics place a special emphasis on Characters, allowing our Dramatis Personae—from Duke William and Bishop Odo to King Harold and the Godwineson brothers—to truly influence the tide of battle.
Grand Scale, Great Speed: Midgard allows for massive, sweeping movements without losing the "heroic" feel of dark-age combat, making it the perfect engine for the Newark event.
To bring a battle of this unprecedented scale to life on October 11th 2026 (at the Other Partizan in Newark, Uk), we needed a ruleset that could handle thousands of figures while still capturing the desperate, personal struggle of the men leading them. We are very happy to announce that HASTINGS960 has partnered with James Morris to use his acclaimed ruleset: MIDGARD HEROIC BATTLES.

We want the entire community to be able to play along and test these forces on their own tables! Whether you are a veteran of the shieldwall or a newcomer to the period, Midgard Heroic Battles provides the tactical depth and narrative flair this project deserves.
We invite you to download the lists, gather your Armies, and prepare for the greatest tabletop clash of the decade.
We are happy to provide the preliminary Army Lists for both the Anglo-Danes and the Norman Invaders as PDF downloads.
These lists have been calibrated to reflect the specific units and proportions we are fielding in October.
